CASTILLO PERELADA
History & Philosophy
Castillo Perelada is one of Spain’s most dynamic wineries. It is still family owned and run, based in the 14th Century Castillo Perelada, in the small town of the same name, in the heart of the Denominació d’Origen Empordà. Castillo Perelada is one of Spain’s principal Cava producers, creating premium Cavas in the Alt Penedès region of Northern Spain. They also produce premium still wines in the small Empordà DO – 2,500 hectares, on the Costa Brava, which has become one of the most prestigious DO’s in Spain. Here, Castillo Perelada’s spectacular vineyards produce elegant, exciting and highly acclaimed wines, capturing the essence of the region.
Vineyard & Climate
Catalonia forms the north-eastern corner of Spain and borders France alongside the Pyrenees mountain range. It includes nine Denominació d’Origen, including DO Penèdes, where Castillo Perelada controls 300 hectares of vineyards at high altitude, and the soil and climate are ideally suited to the production of grapes for Cava.
In Empordà, Castillo Perelada own 150 hectares within five vineyards: Finca La Garriga, Malaveïna, Garbet, Espolla and Pont de Molins. These vineyards produce exquisite single vineyard wines, as well as the 3 and 5 Fincas wines that offer exceptional value. Within Empordà there are many soil variations, ranging from sandy and gravelly to stony terraces.
