History & Philosophy
The Van Zyl family has been producing wine on the estate for three generations. The Estate is situated near Bonnievale in the southern part of the Robertson wine region, 150km from Cape Town and 70km from the South Atlantic Ocean. Wines from this area have become household names both in South Africa and internationally. Van Zylshof is a small estate where father-and-son team Chris and Andri Van Zyl believe in producing limited quantities of handmade, quality wines, using time-honoured methods combined with modern methods. Since 1984 the Van Zyls have concentrated on planting only the best clones available of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. They produce an entry level range that provide easy-drinking, good quality wines that offer excellent value for money.
Vineyard & Climate
The estate comprises some 40 hectares, 35 of which are currently under vineyards of lime-rich soil on a gentle southern slope above the Breede river. Deep, rich soils, combined with a moderate climate influenced by the Breede River and cooling breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, create perfect conditions for the cultivation of noble grape varieties, producing wines that are elegant with good acidity and minerality.

Classic Robertson Sauvignon, with grassy, green tomato and asparagus notes, mineral finish.
An un-wooded Chardonnay, with citrus and apple notes, crisp acidity and ripe fruit on the palate.
Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Matured in French oak for six months, this wine has black and red fruit with spice and gentle tannins.
